Home, our renewed workspace. Sweden, 2022 –

Context and Time

I neither want to redesign my home nor do I want to have my “office” spread out here and there, that was my challenge.

2020 was a special year. With the pandemic our lives changed dramatically and many of us started working mostly from home. But “difficult times are also full of opportunities”, that’s what people say.

In March 2021, I bought a new apartment where the Scandinavian simplicity allows for “easy” and modern ways of living. The space I moved into would become more than my home. It would also become my new working space as a designer.

Design Questions

Our work needs are similar when we work from home: a screen or a computer, a laptop, a keyboard, a mouse, and additionally I have some books and many papers as well as documents for current and previous projects.

How can I organise my space to meet all my work needs without disturbing my home’s interior design? How to design good ways to combine working from and living at home? Would be it possible to solve it with only one piece of furniture?

Can my knowledge and experience as an industrial designer, during the last five years of working a lot with wooden panels, help me to answer the questions above?

Thea, the Design Concept

A minimalist “sculpture” that places a desk in a cabinet with shelves and lighting as well as various storage options, all in one.

Thanks to the L-design, it is easy to make the office “disappear” by closing the cabinet’s doors. Magic! Your home atmosphere is back.

Thea workspace can be integrated into your home’s interior design either by making it a visible “sculpture” in the room or by customising it to fit the aesthetic of the space.

Home Workplaces

In August 2021 the first prototype of  Thea “hemarbetsplats” – home workspace – was installed in my “never too small” flat.

Testing it for a few months, as a user of my own design, was exciting. So I decided to develop a varied assortment that would offer more possibilities to the market.

The first workspace that I created for myself is mostly made of wooden panels that matches the feeling of my wooden floor. The desk is made of glass like my balcony’s baluster.

The form of the initial furniture sets the path for the simplicity of the whole assortment, which now consists of many different workplaces offering a diversity of functions.

All parts are made and produced by one factory. Our workspaces are not mass produced and they are made after demand.

Time for a Dream To Come True

Mars, 2022 I had a business plan on the table of my own workplace at home.

April, 2022 the Design Studio was registered.

July, 2022 the design was registered, after the trademark.

I’m fulfilling a dream, I’m doing it my way, and I’m Working On My Own Design Studio.
